Hi Everyone,
As many of you know, I attended two events at the London 2012 Olympics. This picture was taken at the Greenwich arena, during a break in the men’s bronze medal round for basketball.
It was a riveting game. The score, during the first two quarters, was never more than 6 points apart. During the last two quarters, it was never more than 4 and during the last 5 minutes of the last quarter, never more than 2 — so a total nail-biter, with the Russians winning.
Please read the comment below by my friend David Joyce. The organization of the Olympics is something I failed to mention here and that was an oversight on my part. The games were wonderfully organized and the army personnel looking out for us were unfailingly polite and helpful. I felt very safe and I did not have to wait in line for a thing. Well done London!
As a Brit, we treated the news of London winning the 2012 games with a certain amount of trepidation. In recent years we’ve developed something of a skill for messing up large civil engineering and infrastucture projects. We were also slightly concerned about the fact that we seem to have more than our fair share of extremists keen to put their bomb making skills into practice in our little country. Amazingly (to our cynical eyes) the games seem to have been heralded as something of a triumph. Perhaps the one thing we’re most proud of are the reports in the world’s media that the atmosphere at most events was really friendly, joyous even. A true celebration of the Olympic spirit. So to all visitors from overseas to London during the Olympics and Paralympics – we’d like to say – thanks for making this such a special time for everyone. Come back soon!
